Interactive projection mapping wall for Bilfinger

Large-format media wall in the entrance area shows interactive company presentation

A large-format media wall at Bilfinger SE combines projection, touchscreen and sensor technology to create an interactive company presentation that actively involves visitors and brings complex content to life in a vivid way.

An interactive wall was created in the entrance area of the company’s Frankfurt branch that vividly conveys the products and markets of the industrial services provider. It offers guests and employees intuitive access to the world of Bilfinger.

Idea and objective of the projection mapping wall

Bilfinger was looking for a new form of corporate presentation – more modern, more dynamic and closer to the visitors. Instead of traditional displays, the aim was to create a medium that not only shows information, but makes it tangible.

The media wall was intended to discreetly attract attention, invite people to join in and at the same time reflect the diversity and performance of the company.

Garamantis developed a concept that combines large-format graphics, precise projection mapping and touch interaction. Two short-throw projectors seamlessly display animated content on the approximately five-metre-wide and three-metre-high surface. An integrated 49-inch touchscreen serves as an interface for in-depth exploration of the topics.

Interaction that inspires

All illustrations and animations were created by Garamantis in collaboration with the client and composed into a holistic presentation. The printed business areas appear in a living landscape: wind turbines turn, water surfaces glisten, buildings light up and vehicles move. Projection and animation make it possible to experience the company’s complex services in a playful way.

A LIDAR sensor detects when someone enters the room. The installation then automatically comes to life: The quiet idle mode with gentle movements changes to an active welcome state. In this way, the wall reacts to its surroundings without being intrusive.

If a person touches a business area on the projection surface, the projection and touchscreen react together. It seems as if the content moves from the wall to the screen, where it can be explored interactively and explored in greater depth.

Software and control

The application is based on Unity3D software, which controls all animations, real-time effects and interactions. It is supplemented by a web-based content management system that can be used to maintain and update all content in German and English.

The control PCs are located in a nearby IT room. The entire system starts and shuts down automatically or can alternatively be activated with one click via a web-based interface.

Design and effect

The media wall blends harmoniously into the architecture of the executive floor. Its design follows Bilfinger’s visual language and translates this into a spatially animated form. Clear lines and the precise correspondence of print and projection create a calm, yet impressive overall image.

The installation shows how design, technology and interaction can be combined to create a holistic presentation solution. It conveys information in a concise way that remains in the memory for a long time and makes the Bilfinger brand tangible in a modern way.
