Zeemobase Showroom

Real-time software simulates a three-dimensional city

Initial situation: Making the complexity of the energy transition visible

The energy and mobility transition is one of the central challenges of our time – and is characterized by a multitude of interlinked systems: energy generation, grid infrastructure, forms of mobility, urban life. These interactions cannot be explained using simple diagrams or linear presentations. Traditional forms of presentation are not enough to reach decision-makers and specialist audiences in the long term. Against this background, the desire arose for a format that not only informs, but also involves – and makes complexity tangible in an intuitive way.

The solution: an interactive showroom with real-time simulation

In close cooperation with Deutsche Bahn, Schneider Electric and Inno2Grid Garamantis realized an interactive corporate showroom in the Zeemobase on the EUREF campus in Berlin. Garamantis took on the implementation of the project in its entirety – from the strategic concept to software and hardware development through to system integration, commissioning and ongoing operation, including maintenance and support.

The centerpiece is an interactive media table with individually developed real-time software based on Unity3D. The experience is complemented by a large-format media wall and a flexible room concept. The aim of the showroom is not to lecture visitors with ready-made messages, but to give them the opportunity to discover, question and classify connections themselves.

Interactive scenarios: Systems thinking instead of individual disciplines

The real-time software simulates a three-dimensional city in which all parameters are linked – from energy generation and emissions to urban mobility. Visitors actively participate in the simulation together with moderators:

  • CO₂ emissions during the day and night: What happens if the share of renewable energies is increased? How do different storage technologies affect overall emissions
  • Electrification of rail networks: What are the effects of the switch to electric drives in public transport? How is the utilization of existing networks changing?
  • Expansion of the charging infrastructure: How does a comprehensive charging infrastructure influence mobility behavior? What load does this place on the power grid
  • Intelligent micro-grids: Specific examples are used to show how local energy grids react flexibly and contribute to stabilization – not in theory, but through interactive visualization.

These scenarios promote joint thinking in systems. Decisions are not only discussed in the abstract, but also tested in real time – including repercussions for other areas.

Mediation through interaction

The content is conveyed as part of moderated tours. Groups of visitors gather around the interactive media table and navigate through the various scenarios together with the moderators. Active participation and intervention create a dialog – not a frontal lecture. The combination of haptic control, direct feedback and visual presentation creates an immersive learning experience.

Technological basis: flexible, modular, future-proof

The customized software was developed specifically for the requirements of the showroom. It is controlled via a Garamantis Content Management System (CMS), which enables customers to create scenarios themselves or update existing content. This means that the showroom not only remains up-to-date, but can also adapt dynamically to new issues and target groups.

Since its launch, the system has already been functionally expanded twice – proof of the long-term usability and sustainability of the approach.

Result: A space that empowers sustainable decisions

The Zeemobase showroom makes visible how measures in the energy and mobility transition are interlinked and provides decision-makers with a sound basis for discussions and strategic decisions. The sustainable innovations of the project partners are brought to life with the help of inspiring technology showcases. The showroom is visited by up to 2,400 visitors from the fields of industry, politics and science every year as part of guided tours and events. An experience that lasts – and changes.
