Gigapixels on Jenner adventure mountain

The Berchtesgaden alpine national park in Bavaria proves its modernity and dynamism in the cable car’s peak station

To raise people’s awareness of the natural world in Berchtesgaden National Park, Ars Electronica Solutions devised an interactive approach to the subject. In the bottom and middle stations of the cable car, screens show pictures and videos of the national park and provide hikers and paragliders with seasonal information, for example. At the very top of the mountain, a media room has been installed in the top station that serves as a digital and dynamic window on the National Park.

On behalf of Ars Electronica, Garamantis had the opportunity to contribute the centrepiece of this exhibition: an interactive media station displaying spectacular gigapixel images of the National Park. These specially created, ultra-high-resolution images can be zoomed in on to reveal an unexpected level of detail. Beyond this visual level, visitors to this gigapixel station can also access information on peaks, alms, lodges, and local flora and fauna, linked to each point of interest.
