Gigapixels on Jenner adventure mountain
The Berchtesgaden alpine national park in Bavaria proves its modernity and dynamism in the cable car’s peak station
In order to sensitize people to the world of nature in Berchtesgaden National Park, Ars Electronica Solutions devised an interactive access route to this subject matter. In the cable car’s base and middle stations, screens show images and videos on the national park and provide, for example, hikers and paragliders with seasonal information. At the very mountain top in the peak station, a media room has been installed to serve as a digital and dynamic window on the national park.
On behalf of Ars Electronica, Garamantis had the opportunity to contribute the centerpiece of this exhibition: an interactive media station showing spectacular gigapixel images of the national park. Every minute detail of these specially created, extremely high‑resolution‑images can be zoomed in, thus revealing an unexpected degree of detail in things to explore. Beyond this visual level, at this gigapixel station visitors can also retrieve information on peaks, alpine pastures (alms), lodges, as well as local fauna and flora, which are linked to the respective Points of Interests.
